This June, I flew to Iowa for my good friend Jenni's wedding. Jenni and I used to play together almost everyday as we were next door neighbors.

It was so great to be able to see her again on this special day. Jenni married Kyle, and you can just see how crazy in love these two are!

Kyle is hoping to become an athletic trainer and also played football in college, so we had to get a few pictures with the football :)

We were lucky to have a little break in the rain for some outdoor pictures. Despite the rain, the day was awesome, and Jenni & Kyle were happily married.

I wish all the best in life for you two and a long and fruitful marriage!

This Saturday I had a photo shoot with a great couple, Steve and Jennifer.
We had a great day for an outdoor shoot. A little chilly but otherwise perfect! These two were so nice to work with, they just seemed to be having fun the whole time. In other words, they were making my job a lot easier! I am also very excited to shoot their wedding later this month.

Dave and Lisa were married in a beautiful little park in Olympia. The bench in the first picture is the very spot where they had their first kiss! Stephen & Michele were married at Fort Wordon State Park, which used to serve as protection from enemy ships trying to come into the Puget Sound. The batteries at the park provided a great backdrop for some pictures. The dresses were made by a Seattle designer, Chrissy Wai-Ching. Aren't they fun??

Well it was threatening rain all day, but the ceremony was absolutely beautiful and you can tell these two really love each other. It was an honor to be a part of this special day!

to be out outside again after seemingly weeks of chilly spring weather. It's fathers day, the grills are rolling and everyone seems to be out today catching some sun. We did mange to find a few secluded spots in the park to get some family pictures taken. Amy and her family are nieghbors of mine, and Ezra has been going to her daycare for over a year, so it was especially nice to be able to take some time to get to know them all a bit more. These guys are such a close bunch!!

Today I took Ezra to the Logging Camp Museum at Point Defiance. They have all these really cool (and really old) trains that offered some great textures and colors. Ez had a blast climbing on some of them and looking around, and I had a great time snapping some pictures!

Also on Friday, I had a photo shoot with my neighbors across the street and their 3 week old baby girl Gracie. I always forget just how tiny newborn babies are! Well she was a trooper and let me take lots of pictures of her and her parents. Gracie is one of a few new babies on the block. The others are still in their mommy's bellies, but they'll be out soon enough. She may be a little young to appreciate it now, but how cool to have so many future friends right in the neighborhood!

Friday, May 2nd was May Day at the Annie Wright School Here in Tacoma. I was able to photograph one of the seniors who was honored in the celebration. Scarlet and her entire family were so great! So I found a new posing chair today at my local Goodwill store.

As you can see it's pretty interesting/crazy-ish :) My faithful assistant obliged to let me test out some shots with him in it out in the back yard. I think Ezra is starting to warm up in front of the camera a little more, but then again he doesn't have much of a choice!

At the Nisqually Wildlife refuge

Today we went to the Nisqually Wildlife refuge located halfway between Tacoma and Olympia. It was a big cold and windy, but we had a great time. There are so many birds and ducks to be seen, and we saw a beaver swimming through the water. I told Ezra we would go try to find some wild animals while we were there. I think he was a little disapointed we didn't find any bears or hippos :)

Ez and I got to go to Point Defiance Park with Emily Madison and Brooke. The weather has been warming up a bit so it was great to spend the afternoon outside! I took the opportunity to snap a few shots of the girls. Brooke has started crawling, and Ez and Maddy had lots of fun playing. Maddy is pretty much the coolest person in the world in Ezra's eyes so I think he really enjoyed our trip :)

We are lucky to have such a beautiful indoor garden here in Tacoma. It's a great place to visit on rainy days. I went with Ezra and they had beautiful blown glass pieces by local high schoolers on display all through out the garden! Ez loves to smell all the flowers and feed the koi.

Well, we finally got a break from the rain and snow. Today was beautiful so Ezra and I decided to get out to the waterfront. Ezra climbed a big tree stump all by himself, so he was feeling pretty proud!

Here's a shot I took last night of my trusty bunch of branches I pruned from our flowering tree. I propped the flowers against the mirror in the living room and used a long exposure with candle light. I like how this guy turned out!

I've got my camera!

After months of waiting, I finally have my camera! I am currently taking test shots. Or in other words, taking pictures of anyone or anything that will let me! I absolutely love the camera and I cant wait to start shooting more people. In the next posts I will probobley just share some of my test shots. I need the practice both with shooting techniques and posting on the web. Feedback is always welcome and appreciated!

I've only had my camera for half a day, and I've already taken so many pictures!

Hello again!
So I decided to share a few of my old favorites from my trusty N90s and FM3A. Most of these are cross processed shots, which is a method of developing slide film with a regular 35mm film process. This is a fun effect because it skews the colors and usually brightens them. It is exciting because you never know exactly what you will get.

These two photos were taken on a rainy day in downtown Seattle. While there is nothing really in focus except for the rain drops, I like this pair because for me, it conveys sort of a lonely (for the first shot of the black figure) or drab type of feeling. But it also makes me think about who the person is, walking alone in the rain, and the pleasant colors blurring in the background. I have these prints hanging in my home. They actually look quite a bit more interesting in a large print.

I like this photo because I caught this gull right as his feet left the dock railing. The wing in the upper left hand corner also makes for an interesting composition.

No Camera Yet!

Well,
I don't have my digital camera yet, but I have been doing some research on portrait photography. My sister Vanessa has givin me tons of great info (she is a professional photographer out of NW Iowa) and helpful tips on how to get started. I also read a book called "100 Ways to Take Better Portrait Photographs". I got it at my local library and it really has some great tips on how to capture a great portriat. In the meantime, I may post some of my favorite film shots. They are not all portraits, merely some of my favorites. Hopefully within the next month or two I will have a new digital camera and will start practicing some techniques and sharing photos!
